The International Symposium on Sponge Microbiology provides an unprecedented forum for researchers working on sponge microbiology and has led to many successful collaborations in this field.

We thank the great lead set by prof. Ute Hentschel and prof. Mike Taylor in organizing the 1st International Symposium on Sponge Microbiology (ISSM) in Würzburg, Germany in 2011, and prof. Russell Hill in organizing the 2nd International Symposium on Sponge Microbiology (ISSM) in Baltimore, USA, in 2014.

It is our great honor to invite you to the 3rd International Symposium on Sponge Microbiology (ISSM), which will be held in Shanghai, China, Oct. 25-29, 2018, organized by the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism (SKLMM) and Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU), China.

As the largest city in China and the center of Yangtze River Economic Development Delta, Shanghai is very dynamic in finance, trade and high-tech industry development, particularly for bio-related sectors such as healthcare and biopharmaceuticals. Shanghai is also a historic city with many cultural heritages and tour attractions such as the Bund along Huangpu River in the downtown and nearby ancient water towns with a history of more than 1,500 years.

We look forward to welcoming you to China, a country emerged as one of the world's earliest civilizations with more than 4,000 years of recorded history. We also hope you enjoy your time in the wonderful city of Shanghai.
